It's a different matter when

Southern Maine Flash Mob comes to LL Bean in
Freeport Maine for a Conga Line ( Filmed on a Panasonic GH1 )
Southern Maine Flash Mobs descended on one of Maines most famous
retailers today. Famed Sports Outfitter LL Bean was the scene of the
latest flash mob event. The group met briefly outside of Beans at the
big boot for a pep talk by group leader Nick Salve.
Each flash mob event takes many forms, todays action was the formation
of Conga line that started in the café area of LL Beans
primary store and then preceded to wind and grow its way through the
store and out the front doors. The group then worked its way down Main
street Freeport to cheers and honks of passers by. The group finally
came to rest ending a great event with a cheer.

Time with the "MiniDV Stabilizer"
"I just received my "MiniDV Stabilizer" (this
unit is sold
on eBay by
pjbalvanz) which is a Glidecam 2000/4000 style stabilizer that is only
11" tall. Shortly after unboxing, I set it up with my HV30 and took
some initial test footage with it.
This is the first time I have ever used a handheld
stabilizer.......ever. I realize that I am at the mercy of the learning
curve and will take some practice to get good with this thing. I was
trying some shots that required two hands for panning and
angling.....probably something I should have waited to do until I was a
bit more familiar with it. :)
Anyhow, this is footage from my first flight......

"this was filmed using two cameras and one music
recorder. Camera one (fixed) was a small AIPTEK GVS. Camera two is the
new Panasonic GH1 mounted on a Balvanz Enterprises MiniDV Stabilizer. I
used the kit lens on the GH1, ISO 1600 F4.0, white balance manually
set. The footage was edited in Sony Vegas. The fun part was syncing
three sets of data, the two cameras and the music recorder. It may be a
little rough as this is technically my second video. With that said,
PLEASE give me feedback on the shots, edits, what type of additional
footage I should capture."

Some random test using the Mini DV Stabilizer
from Balvanz Enterprises:

I did a little upgrade on the unit by installing ball bearings on the
Roll and Pitch axis where its usually held up by the four bolts. The
ball bearings sit between the bolts and the main ring/holder. This
eliminates any friction and has improved the shots a lot. The ball
bearings can be acquired from any RC hobby shop.
Of course, practice makes perfect......and I know I need more of it,
haha.
I hope you liked this short video. I'll be making official videos very
soon once the weather becomes better.
Shot using the Canon HF10, 1080p 30FPS. Edited in Corel VideoStudio Pro
X2 (no color corection or enchancements) and rendered as "HDV 720p PC"
for Youtube HD upload.

GH1
with Balvanz MiniDV Stabilizer - Canon FD 28mm f/2.8 60fps
My first ever vimeo upload so go easy ;)
The Lumix GH1 is mounted on a Balvanz MiniDV Stabilizer by
balvanzenterprises.com. I have adjusted the mount to have 'rails' so
that I can slide the camera forward and backwards and account for the
centre of gravity shifting with different lenses.
I took two 60fps takes. One holding the Stabilizer by the stalk so no
compensation from the gimbal. The second take is holding the proper
handle so the gimbal can smooth things out.
First two clips are at the 60fps on a 24fps timeline. The second two
are conformed to 24fps thus are in slow-motion.
Hope this is of interest to someone :)
